Network Design and Operations Workshop, Myanmar
Dates: June 6-10, 2016
Location: Yangon, Myanmar
Venue: UCSY

Under TEIN4 HRD support, the University of Computer Science Yangon is planning to host a training workshop with the title of "Network Design and Operations Workshop" from June 6-10, 2016.

This workshop is targeted at engineers from tertiary institutions (campuses) and national or regional research and education networks (RENs) and it is designed to provide

  • best practice techniques in the areas of core network and Linux/Unix system administration skills
  • campus network design at layers 2 (switching and 3 (routing)
  • building proper instrumentation to monitor and manage the network

The workshop covers network design goals, Research and Education Networks, cable types - copper cabling system and fiber optic systems, hierarchical design building blocks, build star network, separate core and edge functions, routing vs switching and IP addressing. 36 trainees from all around Myanmar are expected to participate in the event. The main objectives are : to be able to explain the different models of a Research and Education Network, physical cabling types, their differences and where they might be best deployed, how to build networks hierarchically using a star topology; and present their current network topology and explain how this compares to the star-topology taught in class.

This programme is led by network experts from the National Startup Resource Center (NSRC) who is also supported by the TEIN project.
