Training Program for Maintaining Campus Network Workshop
18-22 August, Patuakhali, Bangladesh
Participants: Network professionals from public universities in Bangladesh (26 participants) and one (1) participant from Sri Lanka

Objective: - To train network assistant, engineers and network related personnel etc. on how to operate and maintain a campus network - To raise awareness of the importance of campus network maintenance
Approach: Recently the Bangladesh
Research and Education Network (BdREN) connected Patuakhali Science and
Technology University (PSTU) and a campus
network is planned to be established as part of a campus network sub-project, initiated by the
Ministry of Education and funded by World Bank.
Program: The 5-day workshop covered major topics and issues relating to campus network, including network performance, management, monitoring, routing, and security. Participants attended theoretical sessions in the classroom and practical session in the labs. This training program was followed by an evaluation program and certificates were awarded to the successful candidates.
Impact: By attending this workshop, participants acquired the required skills to maintain and manage BGP routing, VLANs, firewalls and security, network servers, wireless LAN, Radius server for authentication, NMS (Cacti) configuration, etc. for their campus LAN. Participants have created an online collaborative group where they can share network issues, solutions and best practice. After returning from the workshop, they are now expected to deploy network monitoring and management tools at their own campus.
